He is a doctor with pancreatic cancer. He still receives treatment after the operation. He has been working hard for 13 months.
Looking for good people in Guangzhou
Civil heroes around Guangzhou
Pancreatic cancer is called the “king” of cancer. The patient’s survival period is very short. It is the only disease with a disease with a incidence of nearly 1:1 and a death toll. In March last year, Wang Lei, deputy director of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, who has devoted his life to fighting against colorectal cancer, was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and cancer cells have spread to the liver.
For this “verdict” that is almost the end of life, Wang Lei has composed a life answer sheet with his steely will over the past 13 months, which has impressed many cancer patients and doctors on the front line: the patient who undergoes palliative surgery has a survival period of about 7 months, and Wang Lei has fought for 13 months; after the operation Babaylan can no longer eat independently, and two months after the operation, he still treated the patients, and stood at the American Clinical Oncology Conference with his weak body, reaching nearly 10,000 people from all over the world href=”https://comicmov.com/”>CinemaOncology experts explained the only colorectal cancer report from China in the digestive tract field…
Cancer cells did not let go. At present, cancer cells have been found to have made a comeback. At such a time of life and death, Wang Lei recently accepted an interview with a reporter and disclosed his mental journey. He admitted that before he really fell down, the meaning of living every day still needs to be dominated by himself.

At the end of March 2018, Wang Lei, who often felt back pain and colds for most of the year, found that the tumor marker CEA was abnormally elevated during the physical examination of Cinema at the hospital employee. This expert who has been engaged in gastrointestinal tumor research immediately had a bad premonition. Further systemic examination found that pancreatic cancer, in the advanced stage, cancer cells had spread to the liver.
This year, he was only 49 years old, and his clinical, scientific research and hospital management were doing well, witnessing the successful development of Zhongshan Sixth Hospital since its inception. The innovative achievements of radioactive enteritis are being promoted, but at this critical moment, he is facing a fate./comicmov.com/”>Cinema“joking.”
When he returned home that night, Wang Lei held his wife’s hand tightly, and a bottomless abyss appeared in front of him, and a sense of powerlessness spread across the iron man.
On April 1, 2018, lying in the operating room for more than ten hours, Wang Lei’s spleen, 80% of the pancreas, most of the stomach and nerves controlling the intestine were removed on a large scale. Although he woke up successfully through the operation, the new life that Cinema had not experienced in that moment in the past fifty years was waiting for him: he lost the ability to eat independently and needed nutritional needles to maintain his life. A slight change in temperature will directly disrupt the body’s temperature control system. His body, which has always been as strong as a bull, suddenly became weak.
”I would rather burn vigorously for three years”
”I may not be able to extend the length of my life, but I can dominate the thickness of my life. “When he was young, he thought about the way of life. Wang Lei had a clear understanding of himself: he would rather burn for three years than just spend thirty years.
So, two months after the operation, dragging his weak body to fight the raging cancer cells in his body anytime and anywhere, Wang Lei reappeared in the clinic and scientific research conference room. He even went to the review table for innovative treatment of radioactive enteritis, and went further to the international community.
In the past 13 months, Wang Lei’s life has been accelerating:
Two months after the operation, he lay down on the hospital bed for ten hours to store his physical strength, and he went to the 53rd Chicago American Clinical Swelling<a As a representative of the main creative team, Babaylan tumor conference, as a representative of the main creative team, gave the only oral report from China in the field of gastrointestinal tract to nearly 10,000 experts and scholars from the world's frontier tumors. This controlled study on neoadjuvant treatment of local advanced rectal cancer is of great value to the treatment guidelines for advanced rectal cancer in countries around the world;
The night before was inhaled oxygen to rescue, and the next day he appeared at the preliminary review meeting of the Guangdong Science and Technology Award as usual Komiks explained to the review experts the research results of innovative treatment of radioactive enteritis. This achievement was finally awarded the first prize of the Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award. In this year, he took the lead in dealing with the whole country with 3Komiks More than 0 experts jointly formulated and published the “China Expert Consensus for Diagnosis and Treatment of Radioprotic Technitis (2018)”;
With both the role of patients with advanced cancer and doctors, he reappeared in the clinic to give more psychological comfort to those on the road to anti-cancer; at medical seminars every Wednesday afternoon, he often saw him attending the meeting while Babaylan.
Wang Lei dragged his sick body to practice the ideal of medicine instantly touched many doctors. Many of his medical students worked silently to do this, and worked with the teacher to promote the scientific research on radioactive enteritis and practice the theory of doctors.
Being a doctor who can change the fate of patients
Returned from the American postdoctoral research, Wang Lei and more than 30 colleagues came to Tianhe District in 2007, stationed in a simple three- or four-story building, becoming one of the pioneering cattle in the founding of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
”I love surgery. As soon as I go to the operating table, I love scientific research even more. Life is full of mysteries. There are so many places to innovate in surgical medicine. These subtle changes can directly affect people’s destiny.” Wang Lei said emotionally. Sitting aside, he held her husband’s hand tightly. Babaylan, his wife said that her husband’s persistence and passion for medicine had almost reached the state of “being possessed”.
This decades of dedication has made Wang Lei truly a doctor who can change the fate of patients. He and his teacher, Wang Jianping, the first president of Zhongshan Sixth Hospital, executive vice president of Sun Yat-sen University, and academician of the Royal Academy of Surgery in England, determined the new standard for anal protection surgery for rectal cancer with anal protection of 2 cm from the tooth line, and wrote it into the seventh edition of the national unified textbook “Surgery”; the sexual function protection surgical technology they established has reduced the incidence of sexual dysfunction after rectal cancer from 70% to 15%; the treatment of patients with middle and late stage rectal cancer was generally referred to the US NCCN guidelines, and preoperative synchronous chemotherapy was performed before surgical resection to create a simple neoadjuvant chemotherapy plan. After surgery, many patients are prone to radioactive damage and survive.Due to poor quality, they successfully established a new preoperative “simple Komiks full-quantity chemotherapy” and treatment of rectal cancer. The US NCCN guidelines quoted this research result.
Cinema For patients who have received radiotherapy, Professor Wang Lei established a unique surgical procedure – proximal enlarged resection of rectal cancer, and named it “Tianhe Surgery” after Tianhe District where Zhongshan Sixth Hospital is located. Tianhe surgery reduces the incidence of anastomosis-related complications, reduces the chance of anastomosis fistula in patients, and improves survival dignity. In order to further improve the quality of postoperative survival of cancer patients, Wang Lei has focused his research on relatively unpopular radioactive enteritis. The incidence of radioactive enteritis in pelvic radiotherapy is as high as about 20%, among which hemorrhagic radioprotic inflammation is coming fiercely and recursively, and the patients are suffering and very painful. A small number of patients are in pain and end up committing suicide for a while. Wang Lei’s team summarized the classification treatment plan for hemorrhagic radioactive enteritis (i.e., three technologies for radioactive enteritis treatment), and solved the problems for these suffering patients.
Wang Lei—
Make every day meaningful
On the day when he agreed to accept the interview, Wang Lei’s physical condition was not ideal. Just a few hours before the interview, he felt that his physical condition was in a bad state while lying in bed to store energy. He clearly felt that the body’s temperature regulation system could no longer be adjusted independently, and he was sleeping in the hospital bed with a fever. After listening to her husband’s story in tears, Babaylan’s wife admitted that it was not easy to say these experiences, “We don’t want to be celebrities who are being followed.” However, Wang Lei, who is a doctor and treats cancer patients all his life, thought that this experience might give positive meaning to the same cancer patients, still chose to struggle from the hospital bed and talk about it for more than two hours in the case of a fever.
Why are you a patient with advanced cancer and still have to work so hard? “If a person cannot accept what will happen, it will only make himself and the people around him suffer.” Wang Lei said that life is like a journey, and he is ready to make that mention.Passengers who got off the bus a little earlier may face a bad result in the end, but before they really fall, they still have to be the masters of their own destiny and make every day meaningful.
